Gephardt passes Missouri bar exam and joins Missouri Air National Guard
In 1965 Gephardt passes the Missouri bar exam and becomes a licensed attorney on September 4th. The next month he joins the Missouri Air National Guard, his military service having been deferred throughout his college career. During training he receives the American Spirit Honor Medal for displaying "the leadership qualities of honor, initiative, loyalty and high example to comrades in arms." He also joins the firm of Thompson & Mitchell full time.
