Gephardt is elected St. Louis Alderman

After rising to the rank of Captain in the 131st Tactical Fighter Squadron of the Missouri Air National Guard, Gephardt is released from duty. He becomes involved in the Young Lawyers Sections of both the St. Louis and the Missouri Bar Associations. In April Richard Gephardt is elected Alderman for the 14th Ward in St. Louis where he becomes part of a group of young politicians dubbed the "Young Turks." This group includes Henry Stolar, Milt Svetanics, John Roach and James Komorek (Gephardt’s future District Office Manager).
